Hey experienced surfers...
What is the story with those "soft" surfboards I see in the stores? Are they better than fiberglass ones?
They seem to be much cheaper than fiberglass.

Fri, July 20, 2007 - 5:31 PMMost of those boards are really mostly begginer baords. Their pretty easy on people just learning to surf. -

Re: Soft Surfboards?
Fri, August 3, 2007 - 6:58 PMIn my personal experience, when you are a beginning surfer, it's going to be obvious to everyone there out with you (and even those on the beach). But relax, because no one is judging you but you. We all start from the same place, and that is learning to be in the right place at the right time when the wave breaks. That's the first lesson in surfing -- hardboard, softboard, boogie board, and body surfing.
When all is said and done, no true surfer mocks another. It's about the spirit of the surf. We're all learning how to meet and greet and catch the next wave. Get out there, get goofy, have fun, and let the ocean be your teacher. She is the teacher! -

Re: Soft Surfboards?
Tue, October 23, 2007 - 2:22 PMWell said. If you're a beginner, there's no way you're going to fool anyone into thinking you're not. As a matter of fact, for safety's sake, you're better off letting everyone know you're a newbie by wearing a bright pink wetsuit with ROOKIE stenciled all over it in lime green. OK, kidding there, but really, don't sweat it.
Also, I've been surfing for twenty five years and one of my many boards is a softy I picked up at Costco for $100. What the hell? It's fun!
As a beginner, just remember: Stay out of the way, and respect others as well as the ocean.
