What would be a good type of board for a beginner? A long board? Something else? It would have to be something easy to ride for someone not interested in stunts.

Wed, April 11, 2007 - 12:12 PMLonger the better...basically you want a plank you can stand on with ease, not a short "hot dog" shredder. Think of it, once you can turn a 10 foot behemoth, hop on a 6'3" rounded squash tail and you'll be hurling buckets of spray mate, Buckets.... -

Re: Beginner's Board?
Fri, April 13, 2007 - 3:50 PMI found a long board incredibly annoying when I started. Course I broke my nose on one so that might have something to do with it. My board is a 7'6 mini mal. It's wide, floats well, is very stable and turns like a tank. It's great on little days, works okay on bigger days... I am ready for something a bit smaller now but it isn't bad to ride while I am saving up my coins for my next board. -

Re: Beginner's Board?
Tue, October 23, 2007 - 2:32 PMI'm backing the mid-length idea as opposed to the looonnnnngggboard idea. my wife also had a lot of trouble with a true longboard, and was also injured. they are harder to get to the beach, harder to carry, harder to rotate when it's time to turn toward shore, etc.
you were on the right track with the soft board. i'd get about an eight footer (wide with a rounded nose, not narrow and pointy -- those are for experienced surfers in Big waves)
